The David Henry Hardigree Wildlife Sanctuary is a private, non-profit organization that was established in 1992 and by Ms. Vivian Ward and named the place in honor of her grandfather who was a life-long resident in Oconee County. It is located outside of Watkinsville. The sanctuary is 88 acres of natural habitat and programs are conducted there such as bird watching, archery, fishing, and more. It is still a work in progress but it is planned in the future to build nature trails, camping sites, outdoor classrooms, and other amenities.
To provide outdoor education programs for children and families to help them better understand nature, appreciate the outdoors, and become good stewards of the earth.
What do we do?
We help with maintenance around the area so children and adults can enjoy the beautiful nature that the sanctuary provides.
